In 1940, in order to ease a quicker transport from shore to shore, two temporary bridges were constructed and stayed there until the government allowed the construction, in 1945, of two bridges that met the special demands of that time.

The two bridges measured about 137 feet (42m) and are the type architectural town, this means they are formed with a series of diagonally braided planks, tied one to the other at each intersection with wood ankles.  Even if this system represents a load of work ( about 2 560 ankles to install on 100 feet ( 30m) of strucure), it is the most known in Quebec because it can be easily constructed and has many advantages.

The Ducharme bridge is ranked as a historical monument since 2006.
